Client Reporting

It goes without saying that one of ISC's core strengths is project management, enabling the effective delivery of regulatory change within your organisation at a programme or project level as necessary.

The Brief

The client commissioned ISC to fill a variety of resources within a project team to implement a client reporting system for a range of client types (both institutional and private). A key facet of this project was to get the right data into the reports.

Project Scope

Whilst the technology solution had already been selected, the configuration of that system, the gathering of data to populate it, the workflow to support report production, and the monitoring of the production run needed to be addressed. The reporting volumes were in excess of 3000 full Quarterly Investment Review reports, as well as additional monthly reporting for a smaller number of particular clients. The most difficult aspect of the entire project came to be the population of the reports with correct and consistently accurate data.

Our Role & Value

ISC’s role in this project was to look at all the various sources of data (both structured and unstructured) and establish the right source for each piece of data. Where that particular data source was questionable or repeatedly causing issues, we worked with the client to make the data more resilient, established rules to check the accuracy and highlight potential issues, refined processes and timings so that data wasn’t released and/or pulled until it was confirmed as ready.

Changing the cultural approach to data was a challenge, but pushing the ethos that ‘finding an error in the data only at the point of producing a client report is wrong’ was a key message. Establishing controls to ensure that checks were carried out on data well in advance of that data getting into a client report was a difficult but essential discipline to implement.

The Outcome

The project achieved it's client reporting goals, but the data issues increased the scope of the project to encompass other areas such as performance measurement. The real success story was that the data became far more reliable, and the cultural approach to data moved significantly forward.
