Funds Launch

Product Development is multi-disciplinary, requiring a knowledge of product and investment strategy, end to end investment operations, regulatory awareness, effective stakeholder management and disciplined project management.

The Brief

A long-established client of ISC required a multi-disciplinary team to manage the delivery of credit funds from initial idea through to launch. Given our relationship and expertise in this area, the client had confidence ISC could deliver consultants with the right skills.

Project Scope

The investment strategy of the funds varied widely, each having unique legal and operational requirements. In addition, the ISC team were tasked to produce a product development framework for the delivery that could also be used for future fixed income product launches.

Our Role & Value

The team were required to work with multiple business teams (Compliance, Legal, Front Office, Operations, Business Change) to ensure tight deadlines were met, manage multiple external service providers, Fund Boards, and ensure that project progress was communicated to all stakeholders in a timely and transparent manner.

Clients engage with ISC to get the right blend of skills to deliver change effectively.  In this case, ISC’s flexible engagement model and broad investment management expertise was used to augment the Client’s own resources to accelerate product delivery.

The Outcome

Funds were launched and a new framework adopted to move launches to a more consistent footing. This provided the client with not only new funds but a cost-effective way to launch future funds.

Consultant Reflections

“I’ve been working with ISC for just over five years, initially as an associate contractor, and more recently on a fixed term employment contract. I have always found the whole team to be approachable, friendly, and supportive. They are also incredibly efficient from an administration perspective. I would definitely recommend.”

Product Master Series – Scope

Mastering fund and product data is not just about operational efficiency; it’s fast becoming a regulatory imperative. It is becoming increasingly apparent that a mature data master is critical to meet everchanging regulatory requirements.

Some Thoughts On The Implementation of an ETF Capability

The attractiveness of diversified, liquid, continuously priced, low-cost instruments to investors has never been greater. The growth in ETF AUM globally from around $1 trillion in 2008 to around $14 trillion at the end of 2023 shows the size of the inroad this asset class has made in a relatively short period. As Investment Managers wrestle with cost pressures across the industry, they are increasingly looking at adding ETFs as a complementary offering.

ESMA ESG/Sustainability Fund Naming Conventions

On 14th May, ESMA published its final report on funds’ names using ESG or sustainability-related terms. This followed feedback and changes made to the original consultation. At 57 pages it is a hefty read, but there are some important changes to note within the text.

Some of the key points where changes have been made because of the responses to the consultation include: –

Barriers to ESG in the Asset Management industry – May 2024

A year ago, we wrote post on Linked In called “Barriers to ESG in the Asset Management Industry.” It was a brief article, but it talked about three distinct key areas that were (at the time) key factors inhibiting the progress of ESG. We thought that (one year on), it would be interesting to revisit those three items, and talk about the progress that has been made

May – Stroke Awareness Month

Here at ISC, we recognise the importance of increasing our awareness and understanding of stroke and its impacts. This month, we have a story to share. Our team member, Paul Lumsden, is a stroke survivor, and his journey offers an insight into some of the challenges faced by those affected by stroke.

By sharing his story, we hope to highlight the realities of the side effects of stroke, particularly the hidden effects, which encourages more people to stay informed and supportive.

SDR During 2024 – What is required and when?

UK asset managers will be busy during 2024 with SDR coming into force. The timeframes are relatively tight, and firms have a lot to consider for the three critical milestones occurring this year.

What Happens if Asset Managers do not do Regulatory Horizon Scanning?

Regulatory Horizon Scanning is critical to any Asset Management organisation today. So critical in fact, that not looking ahead to see what regulation is coming up that may or may not impact your business, is a bit like driving a car with your eyes closed. How can you see the road ahead, the signs, the hazards, that person on the pedestrian crossing, or where you are actually going?

Overseas Fund Regime Update

There has been much talk about the Overseas Fund Regime set to be implemented here in the UK. HMT and the FCA have now published a draft roadmap setting out the likely steps and draft dates. Here we summarise
